Ingredients

  • 4 ripe bananas, peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup of dairy-free almond milk (or your preferred non-dairy milk)
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • (Optional) toppings such as chopped nuts, berries, or paleo-friendly chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Place the sliced ripe bananas on a baking sheet or plate lined with parchment paper and freeze the bananas for at least 2 to 3 hours.
  2. Once the bananas are frozen, transfer them to a high-speed blender or food processor.
  3. Add the dairy-free almond milk and vanilla extract to the blender or food processor. You can also try other non-dairy milk.
  4. Blend the mixture on high until the bananas are completely smooth and creamy. This may take a few minutes (be patient), and scrape down the sides of the blender or food processor as needed. Then, transfer the banana ice cream mixture into individual serving glasses.

  6. Serve the banana ice cream immediately, or transfer it to a sealed container and freeze it for later.

Try to experiment with different toppings and enjoy a refreshing treat.

What Is Almond Milk?

Almond milk is a plant-based, non-dairy option that people (or you) could use instead of cow’s milk. It’s made by blending almonds with water and then straining out the bits using a special bag. This leaves a smooth liquid that’s similar to milk.

What Does Almond Milk Taste Like?

Almond milk has a slightly nutty flavor that is often described as refreshing and light. Some people find the nutty flavor of almond milk overpowering. Others enjoy it as a tasty alternative to dairy milk. The texture of almond milk is different from dairy milk. You’ll notice that it’s typically thinner and more watery.

Is Almond Milk A Good Substitute To Traditional Cow’s Milk?

People are now becoming more interested in saving the planet and treating animals ethically. That’s why they’re looking for alternatives to animal products like cow’s milk.

Here are the health benefits of almond milk and why you should consider it as an alternative to cow’s milk:

  • Low in calories: Almond milk has fewer calories than cow’s milk which can help you lose or maintain weight and stay healthy.
  • Rich in nutrients: It contains essential vitamins and minerals like calcium, vitamin E, and vitamin D; almond milk is rich in nutrients. It is also a good source of healthy fats, protein, and fiber.
  • Dairy-free: Almond milk is a perfect option if you can’t drink milk because of lactose intolerance or milk allergies.
  • Heart-healthy: Almond milk is cholesterol-free and contains unsaturated fats that can help lower your cholesterol levels and improve your heart health.
  • Blood sugar control: It is low in glycemic index, so drinking it can regulate your blood sugar levels.
  • Easy to digest: Almond milk is easy to digest and will help if you are experiencing gut or digestive issues.
  • Vegan-friendly: Almond milk is a good option for people following a vegan (or plant-based) diet.

Talk to your doctor before taking steps to change your diet (or eating habits). Read the labels before buying almond milk because some brands may have added sugar or other things you don’t want.

What Are The Uses Of Almond Milk?

Almond milk is a versatile ingredient that you can use in many dishes. You can substitute almond milk in place of dairy milk for almost anything, including baking and drinking.

Some of the simplest ways to use almond milk are:

  • Adding it to your lattes, tea, coffee, or hot chocolate drink.
  • Using it in your breakfast cereal or oatmeal.
  • Blending it into smoothies or milkshakes.
  • Creating creamy soups, sauces, and salad dressings too.
  • Replacing dairy milk in your baking.
  • Making a delicious lactose-free or dairy-free ice cream.

What Are The Downsides Of Almond Milk?

Low in protein

Almond milk is naturally low in protein, a vital nutrient for the body. While some brands may add protein to their almond milk products, the amount is usually minimal.

May contain additives and sweeteners

Some brands of almond milk may contain additives, such as stabilizers and thickeners, to improve texture and shelf life. They may also add sweeteners, such as cane sugar or artificial sweeteners, to improve the taste. However, these additives may not be ideal for people who prefer a more natural and minimally processed diet.

Not suitable for people with nut allergies

Almond milk is made from almonds, so it is unsuitable for people with nut allergies. They may experience severe allergic reactions, which could be life-threatening.

Low in certain nutrients

Although almond milk is fortified with certain vitamins and minerals, it is naturally low in some nutrients, such as calcium and vitamin D. Therefore, people who rely solely on almond milk as a substitute for dairy milk may need to supplement their diet with other sources of these nutrients.
