Zucchini, also known as courgette, is not just a tasty addition to your meals but also a powerhouse of nutrients that can contribute to your overall health. Although often mistaken for a vegetable, zucchini is actually a fruit. It is classified as summer squash in the Cucurbitaceae plant family, alongside melons, spaghetti squash, and cucumbers. This versatile fruit is rich in vitamins, minerals, and beneficial plant compounds, making it a valuable addition to any diet.

Zucchini is Abundant in Antioxidants

Zucchini has lots of antioxidants like beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin. These antioxidants are important because they help protect your body from damage by free radicals. This can improve the health of your eyes, skin, and heart. Some studies even suggest that the antioxidants in zucchini might help protect against certain cancers, like prostate cancer.

The skin of zucchini contains the most antioxidants, especially yellow zucchini, which may have slightly more antioxidants than light green ones. Eating zucchini regularly can provide these antioxidant benefits, supporting your overall health and making you feel better.
